Breaking Fashion Rules This Winter With Pastel Colors
Are you familiar with the fashion rule that says “don’t wear pastel colors in winter”? Well, I just did-- and today, I’m breaking a lot of rules :p
Growing up and being a plus size, there are a lot of rules I am supposed to follow when it comes to wearing pastel clothes. Every article I’ve read told me to stay away from pastels or lighter colors as they’ll make me look bigger. Sure, there are some articles that “allow” plus size women to wear pastels but there are still restrictions on how we should wear it. As I get more confident about my body and my personal style, I have learned that these rules are kind of.. superficial. Who makes these rules anyway? Who said we should follow all these fashion rules? Time has changed and girls can now wear anything they want to wear. And I’m here to break a lot of fashion rules: to wear pastels regardless of my size and to wear them in January, yep, in winter.
Pastels brighten up my mood all the time. It’s fun, chic and trendy. It makes me feel a little playful and inspires me to try new color combinations. Since I don’t have the time (or the money) to shop for new clothes, I mixed and matched the clothes I have in my wardrobe. Remember the pink faux fur coat I used to dress down a black velvet dress? I didn’t think that it would work well with my red suede skirt! It’s not my typical color combination but it worked perfectly. I also wore a white turtleneck underneath which added more structure, style and of course-- comfort.
Tights are every girls savior this season-- especially when wearing dresses/skirts. As for my footwear, I decided to wear a pair of pink shoes I bought last summer. You might think they aren’t the best choice for winter but they actually have a good grip and are very comfortable.
Wearing pastel colors in January may break a couple of fashion rules but who cares if you break them anyway? Now the question is, are you ready to break the rules with me?
