4 Ways To Enjoy Your Alone Time
A lot of people are scared to be alone. I remember telling a friend before how much I enjoy dating myself and she found it really odd. She thought it was really odd and she asked me how do I enjoy going to places if I don’t have someone to share those memories with. I don’t completely disagree with her though. I think the reason why many people don’t like spending time alone is because it sound dull, boring and miserable. At the end of the day, we need our loved ones to laugh with, to cry with and to enjoy life with. That’s exactly the same reason why I think spending some alone time is necessary. If we can allot time with our loved ones to get to know them better, why can’t we allot a bit of our time with ourselves to get to know us better?
For me, spending some time alone makes you feel more confident about yourself. It helps you become more independent and it helps you discover your capabilities, strengths and even your weaknesses. Spending time alone also helps in improving your personal relationships and flourish new friendships. When you learn how to be comfortable with yourself, you stop depending your happiness on other people because you’ll realize that you are already complete as a person. And when you stop depending your happiness on other people, you start becoming a better person, a better friend, a better significant other and a better loved one.
HOW TO ENJOY ALONE TIME
Give yourself 2 to 3 hours before starting your day
I always try to wake up 2 to 3 hours earlier before I go for work. I have two main reasons for doing this though. First, I don’t like the feeling of being rushed. There are some people who can wake up and get ready for 30 minutes with no sweat. Unfortunately, I am not one of them. I get panicky whenever I get up and realize I only got 30 minutes to get ready. I feel like my morning is so hectic and it reflects my mood and work performance throughout the day. My second reason is that, the extra 2 to 3 hours I get to spend every morning is a reminder to take it easy and to slow down. This is the time when I get to drink and savour the aroma of my coffee, go on social media, write down my “to do list” and reflect on my wins and learnings from the previous day. It helps me determine what I should continue doing and what I can do better to make my day more awesome. I also use this time to gather up all my energy so that I can show up to work motivated and ready.
Learn something you’ve never done before
These past few weeks, I found myself trying to improve my makeup skills. I am not very good in doing my own makeup but I can say I have improved a lot as I now know how to put on false eyelashes. I also tried watching makeup tutorials on how to do eye makeup and although that is still yet to improve, I can say that I have now become more comfortable in doing it. Maybe makeup isn’t your thing or maybe you’re already a makeup expert. Why not try something you’ve never done before? Like for example, go bungee jumping or learn how to swim. Of course, you can always do these things with someone. But wouldn’t it be rewarding to accomplish something on your own? Would it not feel great when you manage to learn something new by yourself? After all, it’s the small things that keeps us happy. It’s the small things that keeps us going.
Shop and dine alone
I believe that it’s healthy to shop alone from time to time because you can give all your attention to yourself and really take your time on knowing what you want. Yes, it’s fun when someone can help you shop for clothes because their opinions can be really helpful but sometimes, you just need to follow your gut. Think of it as a way to experiment on new clothes and a way to improve your style. And after a tiring shopping spree, treat yourself to a good restaurant or maybe enjoy an afternoon coffee or tea on a local cafe. It always makes me happy and relaxed whenever I try new restaurants while listening to a coffee jazz playlist on Spotify.
Two months after we moved to Canada, I decided to take a leap and go to Toronto alone. Travelling alone is one of the most rewarding and liberating things I’ve done in my entire life. I had many doubts beforehand but I was more excited because it was something I’ve never done before. Travelling alone made me realize I can do things more than what I could have ever imagined. It can be scary, cause it truly was, but the adrenaline you would feel in discovering a new city all by yourself is worth every fear.
Spending time alone doesn’t need to be sad and boring. The things I’ve shared above are some of the things I do to enjoy my “me time” but really, sky’s the limit. Do something you’ll enjoy and you’ll be amazed how capable you are in doing and enjoying things on your own.
