5 Ways To Gain Style Confidence And Wear What You Want
We all have great taste in fashion. We know what looks good and what’s not. That alone, tells me how amazing our sense of style is. Sometimes, the only thing we need is a little bit of confidence. Confidence in trying out something new. Confidence in expanding your clothing options. Confidence in wearing what you want.
More often than not, it’s not the clothes that make us look good, it’s the way we’re wearing it. You can wear the trendiest and the most expensive clothes out there but if you don’t dress confidently, if you don’t feel good about what you’re wearing, it shows.
If you really want to improve your style, the first thing you need to learn is how to be confident in wearing whatever you want. Let me show you how.
Flaunt Your Assets
The best way to gain style confidence is to show off your assets. Your assets are your assets for a reason, so why not use them to your advantage? Wear clothes that will emphasize them. Personally, I feel that my assets are my legs that’s why I wear skirts and dresses a lot. If I’m not wearing skirts or dresses, I usually opt for skinny jeans or fitted dress pants as it shows the figure of my legs without really exposing it.
Overcome your biggest fashion insecurity
A couple of weeks ago, I shared with you how I managed to deal with my biggest fashion insecurity. I do believe that overcoming your fashion insecurities will take your style confidence to the next level. Once you’ve dealt with it, you can now freely wear whatever you want without thinking about what others say. Mind you, this is also one of the hardest things to do so what I can suggest is to start small. Start by choosing one item that intimidates you. Then wear it in public for a whole day. After the day ends, you’ll realize that it isn’t as bad as you think it is. Do it again, let’s say once a week. You may not notice it but little by little, you’ll become more comfortable wearing clothes you thought you’d never wear in public. The next thing you know, your fashion insecurities are only a thing in the past and is not anymore a big deal to you.
Get rid of the clothes that make you feel bad
I’ve also shared this on my blog before. Clothes are supposed to make you feel good, not bad about yourself. So if you’re clothes are starting to make you question yourself and your body… then it’s time to get rid of them. Yes, I’m talking about the clothes you’ve been keeping in case you lose weight, the clothes you’ve been telling yourself you’ll use it one day but deep inside you know you’d never will. Anything that doesn’t make you feel good about yourself are better off thrown, sold or given,
Break some fashion rules
Forget about fashion rules. I mean, who made the “rules” anyway? It isn’t a crime to break the rules because, at the end of the day, you’re dressing up for yourself. You are allowed to wear any type of clothing you want as long as you feel it could improve your style confidence (or your confidence in general, really).
Don’t look up other people’s styles that much
There’s nothing wrong about looking for outfit ideas on Instagram or Pinterest. However, you have to understand that to each is own. We all have a way of wearing and carrying our clothes. What works for others, may not work for you and vice versa. It doesn’t mean you have better or worse taste in fashion. It just means we have different features that’s why the clothes that compliment our body differs as well. The key to gain style confidence is to simply follow your gut and trust your taste in fashion. There’s no wrong or right, no hit or miss. As long as you like what you see when you look in the mirror, then that’s all that matters.
