This week, I’ve decided to go on a break from my usual fashion posts and talk about something more serious. I want to talk about goal setting. We just recently entered 2019 which also means another chance for us to start a new beginning. I get excited every time the new year comes because this is also the time where I set my goals and push myself to become a better individual, wife, daughter, sister and a better professional. I know I’m not alone as most of you have probably set their goals already.

Goal setting is easy, especially if you know the path you want to take in life. Being able to accomplish it is another story. With all the distractions that come our way, it can be hard to stay focus on what we are trying to achieve. There can also be times when we lose hope or just don’t feel motivated anymore. It takes a lot of courage, perseverance and patience in order to achieve what we want to achieve this year. Yes, it’s challenging but it’s not impossible. Hopefully, the following strategies I’m about to share with you can help you keep your momentum and eventually help you reach your goals in no time!

1. Find the purpose for each goal

Before anything else, you need to find the purpose as to why you want to achieve a certain goal and how will it impact your life. Why would you work on something that is not even important to you? How are you going to stay motivated in reaching your goals if you don’t even know why you’re doing it in the first place? Knowing your goal’s purpose should be the very first step in goal setting because it’s going to be the basis for everything you do moving forward. It also helps you keep your focus and stay away from any distractions.

2. Make s.m.a.r.t. goals and action plan

You’ve probably heard of S.M.A.R.T. goals before as it’s commonly used in creating business presentations. To tell you briefly, S.M.A.R.T. stands for Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-Bound. Goal setting can sometimes be overwhelming and creating S.M.A.R.T. goals helps you organize your thoughts, focus on your ideas and determine if your goals are attainable or not.

S.M.A.R.T. goals and action plan are pretty straightforward. You just need to do a list of goals you want to achieve along with the necessary steps you on how are you going to achieve it. It’s also essential to identify the time when you should accomplish the goal and the factors that can affect your progress.

3. Set a target date.

Those who are serious in achieving their goals always give themselves a deadline. In connection to our second strategy, creating a deadline for yourself helps you stay committed. Plus, it helps you be organized and on track, especially on things you need to do in order to reach your goals. Though there is a stigma that deadlines are supposed to be stressful, it’s best if you create a deadline that will work for both your lifestyle and your schedule. That way, it’s easier to follow and it’s easier to attain.

4. Don’t deprive yourself

Some goals are not accomplished because do it half-heartedly. We do it half-heartedly because we treat it as a sacrifice. We feel that in order to achieve one goal, we have to sacrifice something that we are used to doing. In order to reach your goals, you have to treat it as a reward and not a sacrifice or a dreadful routine. Do not deprive yourself of all the goodness in life just to achieve something. Accomplishing your goals should be an enjoyable thing and any goal that makes you feel otherwise is just not worth it.
