How To Improve Your Style In 3 Easy Steps
Improve Your Style In 3 Easy Steps
Some girls are so afraid to improve their style and I totally get that. Growing up, I have always been the t-shirt and jeans kind of girl because I fear that dresses won’t look good on me. I also got scared on what people might say. My insecurities took a toll on me and affected the way I look and the way I dressed up.
I’m sure there are a lot of women out there who’d rather play it safe than to improve their style for the same reasons. Improving your style is a big step to becoming a better version of yourself and even though it can be hard, it is doable.
If you are having troubles on where to start, here are three easy steps on how to start improving your personal style.
1. When wearing basics, wear something that will stand out.
It can be tempting to buy every fashionable pieces at the mall but don’t overwhelm yourself too much. Start with buy the basics first and be comfortable on mixing and matching those staples. This can be a good practice for you because basic staples can be used anytime.
Wearing basic staples, however, does not need to be dull. Wear a pop of color or something that helps your outfit to stand out. Like for example in this outfit that I’m wearing, the pop of color on the sides of my sweater added more style to what is supposedly just a plain white sweatshirt. I also wore printed high heel shoes and a purse with a floral print for more color.
2. It’s okay to follow trends but don’t let it consume your own style.
There’s nothing wrong with following the latest fashion trends. There’s nothing wrong with buying clothes that are in for the season. What’s wrong is when you let these trends dominate you and your style.
I follow fashion trends to get inspiration whenever I need an update on my wardrobe or whenever I need new clothes for the season. However, I also value practicality. Will it make you feel good to buy clothes that you’re not comfortable with just because it’s trendy? Will it make you feel confident to wear something you don’t really like but you wear it anyway because everyone seems to have it? It just doesn’t make any sense to invest in clothes, whether it’s trendy or not, that doesn’t make you feel good.
If you are going to invest in trendy clothes, make sure to get the most out of your money. It has to be something you can use more than three times and something you can keep for at least a year to three years.
3. Embrace your personal style and be confident.
There is a common denominator I see on almost every fashion blogger out there. Nope, it isn’t just their outfits-- it’s their confidence and the way they handle themselves in the clothes that they are wearing. Confidence goes a long way in improving your style. It affects your day and surprisingly, it also makes you feel happy and more motivated.
If you don’t feel good about your clothes, can see it too. Instead of noticing how pretty your new dress is or how fabulous your shoes are-- what they’ll see is a girl who’s very conscious of herself and what she’s wearing. I’m sure you don’t want to be that girl.
It all comes down to knowing what your personal style is and what you want to wear on a regular basis. One of the best ways to help you with this is to update your wardrobe and to keep only those that make you feel good. Another way is to show your assets. If you have broad shoulders, don’t be afraid to invest in off shoulder tops or V-necks. If your legs are your asset, don’t hesitate to show them off more often. Remember that the best outfit a woman can ever wear is her confidence. In the end, you really don’t need the best clothes, you only need clothes that will make you see the best in you.
